It’s Monday: time to set some SMART goals

It’s Monday, the first workday of the week for me and all you other office rats. And most of the time people hate Mondays, but today I have a feeling it could be alright.

If I want to make today and this week count, though, there are a few things I need to do, and one of those things is to avoid wasting time. Thinking about this a few minutes ago, as I poured myself a bowl of almond crunch cereal, reminded me of this goal-setting guide:

SMART goals:
S – specific
M – measurable
A – attainable
R – relevant
T – timely

By setting goals that have a deadline and a specific plan for success, we’re far more likely to achieve them. I also find that writing down my goals really helps. By asking yourself whether a goal is relevant helps you keep your overall goal in the forefront of your mind and avoid being distracted.

So that’s my plan for today – figure out what needs to be done this week and set up a SMART plan for how to make it all happen! If you’re interested in more details on SMART, check out this page.
