Back on track: tactics to fix your train of thinking

It happens to everyone: you get caught on a train of thought you shouldn’t be on. Sometimes it’s being afraid of something new. Sometimes it’s talking yourself out of things you should do, like go to the gym.

Here are your battle tactics:

  • Pep talk. Give yourself the reasons you’re well-suited or up for the task.
  • Logic. Go through the pros and the cons, and remind yourself why you want to do (or not do) it
  • Bully yourself. Sometimes it’s what you need, so mentally strong-arm yourself into doing it.
  • Promise yourself a reward. Give yourself a prize once you reach your goal.

These are the tools you can use to get yourself on track. The trick is knowing yourself well enough to know which trick will suit you on any particular day.

Good luck!
